Horror
Horror tends to be more emotional than logical, often acts as the function of chaotic rather than order. Although it is illogical by thinking of it our brain gives us the preconception. In human psychology, we deprive pleasure from sympathetic response, emotions is often ignored by logic.
In art form people are afraid of what they don’t know or they don’t understand. This it selves promotes uneasiness and because we don’t understand we tend to make assumptions of the work resulting fear by giving in to our emotions.
Fantasy
Fantasy is like a genre that utilizes magic or some super natural forms as an element of plot, theme or setting. Fantasy can be defined as a form of mode.
People are able to relate fantasy to some extent is because of the mode of imitation, which is to imitate the real world while at the same time able to find wonders through the super natural. The key the right kind of fantasy where things go too realistic or too illogical is to make a balance with these two poles. So at one end of the pole we have the imitation while the other end being as the super natural, we have to keep our balance in between these two poles in order to form out the perfect fantasy
In other words, how is a genre idea affected by the media in which it is created?
In terms of use of media, and game content, what possible new directions could you take the genre? Speculate on this (write about 500+ words for this whole section).
Base on what I know, I felt that the effects of media especially fairy tales has really much of died out or going to extinct. Right now in our world, everything is going ahead of logic. In schools, education is often emphasizing more on the logic side of subjects such as math & science, it often left out the subjects that require less creativity such as art and literature. This is partly due to a belief that only things work out by making a more logical solution than illogical. Advancement in technology plays a major role to the society belief causing people to have a more logical mindset of working through.
Eventually this belief has cause a change in people’s taste and preference in which people are no longer appealed by the illogical magical world. One very good example for this is Disney. Disney use to produce works on fairytales but eventually they stop producing its work. This could be a reason due to the time where technologies have improved causing a shift in society belief which also led to a change in taste and preferences. On the other hand, 3d movie became popular among the audience as it fits in to the society belief making the suitable form of media.
In terms of the media nowadays, perhaps one could still win back its popularity is by able to merge in fairy with other types of genres. For example a merge of horror and magic like genre together. This way, it gives the audience a new feeling of wonder and fear. Base on the different type of genre we now have, if one genre start to get less successful then the other or the opposite of the genre should stand a better chance of winning its people, so for fairy tale case, I would probably figure out some ways of mixing the types of genres so that I could make out a new formula out in which to attract back the people.
